Ha terminado el período de votación en el concurso de covers "Maybe I'm Amazed" organizado por el equipo de Paul McCartney y YouTube, y sólo resta esperar a que se anuncie oficialmente el ganador.
Estas son mis diez favoritas en el concurso, al margen de la cantidad de votos que hayan reunido o de mi gusto personal. En mi apreciación considero la originalidad del arreglo, la fuerza interpretativa, la precisión en la interpretación, la calidad de sonido y, en último término, el diseño visual (pues no es un concurso de videoclips).
No publiqué antes esta lista porque no quise desviar las preferencias del público votante.
El orden de la lista es alfabético, no preferente.

The voting phase in the "Maybe I'm Amazed Cover Competition" organized by Paul McCartney's team and YouTube, has ended, and we can only wait for the winner official announcement.
Here is my Top Ten in the competition, not considering the votes gathered by the contestants nor my personal taste, but the originality of the arrangement, the performance power, the playing precision, the sound quality and, in the last term, the visual design (because it's not a video competition).
I didn't publish this list before, because I didn't want to deviate the public vote preferences.
The list order is alphabetical, not preferential.

De todas las versiones apegadas a la original de McCartney, esta es la que más me gusta.
La fuerza interpretativa del vocalista es demoledora; el solo tocado por la guitarra acústica —en vez de eléctrica—, imprime una textura más suave que la de la versión original; los coros están perfectamente ensamblados y afinados y la batería está muy bien tocada. Siendo una banda acústica, como su nombre lo indica, me habria gustado que el bajo lo fuese también. La calidad de sonido es impecable y poderosa.

Among all versions tied to McCartney's original, this is the one I like best.
The performance power of the singer is demolishing; the solo played by the acoustic guitar —rather than electric—, prints a texture softer than the original; the chorus are perfectly assambled and tuned; and the drums are very well played. Being an acoustic band, I would like the bass to be acoustic too. The sound quality is impeccable and powerful.

El profesionalismo de Beau, quien ya tiene en su haber grabaciones profesionales, se nota desde que canta las primeras líneas. El video narrando su romance hasta su matrimonio es encantador.

The piano arrangement is good, without self brilliance, as it was designed to support the voice, which seems technically very educated and precise, in the stream of the TV show "High School Musical" or the movie "Across The Universe". The professionalism of Beau, who already has professional recordings, is very notorious since the first lines he sings. The video narrating his romance until his marriage is charming.

Esta cortísima versión me sorprende por su originalidad al utilizar solamente voces y palmadas, muy en el estilo de los ensambles vocales callejeros. Las voces están perfectamente acopladas en tiempo y afinación. Me habría gustado que la versión durara un poco más, quizás el doble de tiempo.

This very short version surprise me because of its originality using only voices and hand clapping, just in the style of street vocal ensembles. The voices perfectly match both in timing and tuning. I would like this version last a little longer, perhaps double the time.

Esta banda de San Petersburgo contagia de alegría desde el principio. Convirtieron la canción en una auténtica danza folclórica y su fuerza interpretativa supera con creces un par de pequeños deslices vocales del guitarrista. Dos excelentes ideas son los rompimientos rítmicos (minutos 1:30 y 1:56) y el solo de saxofón, cuyo timbre evoca una guitarra eléctrica distorsionada. La dama bailando es muy atractiva.

This band from Saint Petersburg spread joy since the beginning. They turned the song into an authentic folk dance and their performing strenght easily overcomes a couple of little vocal slips by the guitar player. Two excelent ideas are the rythm breaks (mins 1:30 and 1:56) and the sax solo whose timber evokes a fuzz guitar. The lady dancing is very appealing.

Es difícil ser objetivo al calificar mi propio trabajo, así que me limitaré a hacer una descripción de lo que aporté en él.
Me alejé de la versión original; pero sin alterar su espíritu primigenio.
Utilicé el contratiempo de la batería para añadir movimiento a la sección rítmica; reemplacé los coros de fondo con cuerdas y distorsioné la guitarra más de lo usual en este tipo de canciones, improvisando sin limitarme a la melodía guitarrística original.
Después del primer solo de guitarra, agregué un poco de reggae con el bajo ejecutando glisandos (deslizamientos de una nota a otra) y las cuerdas tocando pizzicattos (como se hace con la guitarra española).
Hice crecer la orquestación progresivamente añadiendo elementos para crear una apoteosis al final de la canción, con la sección de cornos citando un fragmento de "When I'm Sixty Four" y ejecutando finalmente la melodía que McCartney canta después de la frase "baby won't you help me understand".
Mi video contiene un detalle que un posterior concursante incluyó: el uso de juguetes (en mi video una guitarra y un perruche).

It's hard to be objective when qualifying my own work, so I will only describe the contributions I put in it.
I moved away from the original version, without altering its primordial spirit.
I used the hi-hat to add motion to the rythm section; I replaced the back vocals with strings and I distorted the guitar more than usual in this kind of songs, improvising without limiting to the original guitar melody.
After the first guitar solo, I added some reggae with the bass guitar playing glissandos (sliding notes from one to another) and the strings playing pizzicattos (as with Spanish guitar).
I made the orchestration to grow progressively by adding elements in order to create an apotheosis at the end of the song, whith the horn section quoting an excerpt of "When I'm Sixty Four" and finally playing the melody that McCartney sings after the phrase "baby won't you help me understand".
My video contains an element that a later contestant included: the use of toys (in my video was a guitar and a puppet).

Él también hace crecer la orquestación llevándola a una apoteosis, en este caso una larga coda a base de coros, acordeón y cuerdas. El ritmo practicamente no cambia, lo cual limita la fuerza del arreglo; pero es parte de la esencia del tecno.
Buenas ideas la voz en off al principio de la sección rítmica y el diálogo entre los coros y la voz principal poco después de la mitad de la canción (2:03).
También es buena idea no haber incluido la melodía de la guitarra, apenas sugiriéndola con los acordes de acompañamiento respectivos.
El final del video, después de tanta agitación, sorprende con la relajada pareja que toma café (o algo así) junto a un muro.

He also grows the orchestration bringing it to an apotheosis, in this case a long coda based on choirs, accordion and strings. The rythm is virtually unchanged, something that limits the strength of the arrangement, but it's in the essence of techno music.
Good ideas the voiceover at the beginning of the rhythm section (1:17) and the dialogue between the chorus and the lead vocals soon after the middle of the song (2:03). Also a good idea not to have included the guitar melody, barely suggested by the respective chords.
The end of the video, after much turmoil, surprised with the relaxed couple who drink coffee (or something like that) next to a wall.

His arrangement for alternate guitar tuning (different from standard tuning) replaces the opening chords with a fragment similar to the introduction of "Beginnings" by Chicago, taking them up several times, in addition to completely remove the guitar solo.
Her singing is emotive, without bragging, and with a discreet and pleasant style. He does not try to show off her voice, but the song itself, and thanks to that he shines through his voice, his guitar arrangement and his creative talent.
